North Florida Dermatology Associates was established in 1983 in historical downtown Riverside next to Memorial Park. The practice started as a small private practice and grew into the predominate Dermatology practice in Jacksonville. 1996, North Florida Dermatology moved into the building that it currently resides in now. The office at 1541 Riverside Ave was originally one of many Mansions that occupied what was known as "the Row" back in the early 1900. The building was converted into a medical office keeping intact as much as possible of the original architecture. Only two of these mansions remain. The two original parlors are now the waiting room for patients. An elevator was added for the convenience of patients.
The physicians of North Florida Dermatology take pride in staying on top of new advances in the field of Dermatology thru continuing education as well as membership in Duval County Medical Society, American Academy of Dermatology, American Society of Dermatologic Surgeons as well as many others. Our physicians are board certified in Dermatology. Dr. Shvartzman is a fellowship trained MOHs surgeon

We also have 3 Physician Assistants who work as part of our health-care team.
What is a PA?
A Physician Assistant works as part of the health-care team with a Supervising Physician in all specialties of medicine. PAs can provide physical exams, diagnosis, treatments such as prescriptions, order labs / x-rays and even perform surgical or cosmetic procedures. PAs typically see their own schedule of patients but have a Supervising Physician available for consult or discussion if needed. PAs that work in specialties such as Dermatology have specific training and experience in that field of medicine.
What kind of training do PAs have?
Most Physician Assistants have completed a 4 year degree, have previous medical experience and complete an accredited 2 year PA program typically obtaining a Masters Degree. Many PAs graduated from a College of Medicine attending class along side medical students or a College of Allied Health. PAs then take a national board exam becoming Certified (PA-C). PAs are required to take this exam every 6 years, as well as, perform 100 hours continuing education every 2 years.
Tell me about NFDA's PAs.
All of NFDAs PAs are graduates of the University of Florida's College of Medicine. They have all been practicing medicine for several years and have special training in dermatology. Our PAs are Nationally Certified and have specialized training in different lasers, skin products, cosmetic procedures and surgical procedures. Our PA/Physician teams work closely together to assure the highest quality of care.
